Seoul (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - POSCO (KSE:005490), South Korea's leading steelmaker, said today that it has built a plant in the United States that produces pipes used by the American Petroleum Institute for oil transportation.
The plant in Pittsburgh will produce 270,000 tons of high-quality pipes annually, the company said.
POSCO has a 35-percent stake in the plant, named United Spiral Pipe LLC, while United States Steel Corp. holds an equal interest.
The two companies will supply hot-rolled steel to the plant for processing.
Demand for oil pipes in the North American region with diameters over 24 inches tops 2 million tons annually, the South Korean company said.
